A storage shelf can be useful for organizing tools and other materials in a workshop or garage. A power tool shelf in particular can be useful for keeping power tools readily accessible and organized. This can help to make it easier to find the tool you need, and also help to keep your workshop or garage more organized and efficient.

And if your situation is anything like mine, a power tool shelf will protect your tools from damage by keeping them off the floor and in a more secure location.

Features To Consider

There are a few key features you’ll want to consider before building your shelf. There are tons of designs out there. I designed my shelf based on these features:
  • Number of tool slots
  • Number of shelves
  • Slots for longer tools
  • Mounting to the wall

General Instructions

Here are the general steps for building a power tool storage shelf out of plywood:

  1. Consider the size and number of tools that you will be storing, as well as the space you have available in your workshop.

  2. Decide on the layout of the shelf and mark the locations for any dividers or partitions that you want to include.

  3. Cut any dividers or partitions out of the plywood using a saw.

  4. Attach the dividers or partitions to the main shelf using wood glue and nails or screws.

  5. Apply a finish to the shelf, such as paint or a clear coat of polyurethane, to protect the wood and give it a finished look.

  6. Mount the shelf on the wall using appropriate hardware, such as brackets or cleats. (French cleats)

  7. Organize your power tools on the shelf.

Note: These are general steps for building a power tool storage shelf, you may need to adjust some steps based on the size, design, and materials you are using.
